Josefine Villaverde Age 101 Years, Self nominated Chairman of the Party Age not a barrier for these women. Age a century, or rather the age of 101 years, Josefine Villaverde launched his political career. He will fight as the candidate of the Socialist Party in Cuntis, the village of Galicia, northwestern Spain, in the municipal elections on May 22.
Villaverde, who was born on November 19, 1909, prepared and enthusiastic. He sought support in the streets in the small town where he lived and campaign promises “made Cuntis Win”.
Decorated with a smiling face and short white hair, he recalled when he voted in the age of 24 years in local schools on 19 November 1933, the first general election which was opened to women after parliament gave its approval two years earlier.
Her husband had given her ballots at the door of the school as a birthday present form. “He gave it to my ballot, I went and put them in a ballot. It was the first woman to vote in Spain. And I was there,” said Villaverde told the daily El Mundo, was quoted as saying by AFP.
Among the politicians at this time, he supports the Defence Minister Carme Chacon because she is a woman. “Women taking office,” he said.
Chacon could be a candidate to take over leadership of the Socialist Party of Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who has decided not to run again in the general election of 2012.

Villaverde, widow since 1973, with three great-grandchildren and one great-grandson, said he had become “a socialist since birth” and is “like talking politics”. “You have to vote not for your friend, but for your principles,” said Villaverde told El Mundo.
